How we assess whether it's right for you
- Phone triage so urgent problems are prioritised
- Focused examination and X-ray of the affected area
- Immediate explanation of what is causing the problem and the options
Suitability is decided after an examination, not from a photograph or a phone description. If a treatment is not right for you, your dentist will say so and set out what else is available.
What the process involves
1. Call
Ring (02) 6274 0404 and describe the problem. Availability is confirmed on the phone, not online.
2. Assess
The cause is identified — decay, infection, fracture, gum problem or trauma.
3. Relieve
Treatment on the day usually aims to settle pain or infection, which may not be the final restoration.
4. Plan
A written plan for definitive treatment, with costs, follows.
Risks and limitations
- Emergency visits usually manage the immediate problem; further appointments are commonly needed to complete treatment.
- Severe facial swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing is a medical emergency — go to an emergency department or call 000.
- Some teeth cannot be saved, and extraction may be the only predictable option.
Alternatives to consider
- Interim pain management and antibiotics where indicated, with definitive treatment scheduled
- Referral to a hospital or specialist for complex trauma
Any dental procedure carries risks. This page is general information, not a diagnosis or personal advice. Outcomes vary between people, and suitability can only be determined after an examination by a registered dental practitioner.
What affects the cost
- Fees depend on the treatment actually required, and are confirmed in a written plan before treatment begins.
- An emergency appointment is usually charged as an examination plus whatever treatment is carried out on the day.
- Health fund rebates vary by fund, level of cover and remaining annual limits. We can process claims on the spot with HICAPS where your fund supports it.

Before your appointment
What to bring
Your Medicare card, private health fund card, any concession or DVA card, and a list of medicines you take. If you have had recent X-rays elsewhere, bring them or tell us where they were taken.
How long it takes
Appointment length depends on what is found at the examination. Reception gives you an estimated time when you book, and your dentist confirms it once the plan is agreed.
Nervous patients
Tell reception when you book. Your dentist can explain each step before it happens, agree a stop signal with you, and break treatment into shorter visits.
Children and families
Family appointments can often be arranged back to back. Eligible children can be treated under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
Emergency dentistry — questions we're often asked
Do you keep emergency appointments free each day?
The team holds time for urgent problems where possible. Availability changes daily, so call and ask rather than relying on online slots.
My tooth has been knocked out — what should I do?
Handle it by the crown, not the root. If it is an adult tooth, gently reinsert it if you can, or keep it in milk, and seek care immediately — time matters.
What about after hours?
Existing patients can message the after-hours number listed on our contact page. The team responds when the clinic reopens. For severe swelling or trauma, seek medical care immediately.
